2013 Elmore Scholarship Recipients Announced

Congratulations to Glendy Bowman and Whitney Carrington, the 2013 recipients of the Nancy Elmore Scholarship. These scholarships, awarded annually in June by the VAHSA Board of Directors, provide $500 to assist with higher education expenses.

2013 Elmore Winners

Glendy Bowman is a parent with the Fairfax County Family and Early Childhood Education Program. She is active on both the Policy Committee and Policy Council, has testified before the Board of Supervisors on behalf of Head Start, and has been trained in the Abrientos Puertas/ Opening Doors curriculum. She is a student at Northern Virginia Community College and eventually wants to obtain a degree in early childhood education.

Whitney Carrington is a family advocate with Northern Virginia Family Services Early Head Start in Arlington. She came to Head Start as a social work intern and was “bitten by the Head Start bug.” Currently, she is pursuing a graduate degree in public health administration from Liberty University.

With these extraordinary recipients, we look forward to many years of their contributions to the Head Start network.
