Goal Setting is paving the way to success

C. Johnson is a Head Start parent who did not finish high school, largely because she had spent most of her teen years taking care of her mother who is now in a nursing home. Ms. Johnson also did not drive, had no transportation and had never worked. Ms. Johnson’s self esteem was very low, and seemed to believe she could do no better.  It took a lot of effort to set goals for her.

Goal 1 – Transportation:  She now accesses New Kent Bay Transit and is studying to get her learner’s permit.

Goal 2 – GED:  She is now taking classes through the library and was scheduled to take her GED test over the summer.

Goal 3 – Job:  She now has an evening job and her father and grandmother help with her child. This job also allows her to participate in school activities with her child.
