A leader developed at Shenandoah Valley Head Start

Two years ago we met a mother with a child enrolled in the program. She was interested in volunteering, governance and leadership. She ran to be a classroom representative and was elected by her peers.

She was then elected to be the Policy Council representative. She served well and occasionally ran in the District Planning Team meeting. She helped on interview teams as well.

Recently, our program had an opening for a Family Service Advocate position. She applied and was the most prepared candidate. Her answers reflected a parent who grasps the vision of Head Start and an individual who understands the value of positive and goal-oriented relationships. She was offered the job and  joined our team July 1, 2014!
