Growing Up Musically Program offered at Danville Head Start
Averett University music professors and students are helping local preschoolers learn through song, dance and musical instruments as part of a new initiative in partnership with Community Improvement Council in Danville, Virginia. Once a week, Averett professors and students travel to the local preschools to deliver special lessons to the students. The lessons incorporate music, rhythm and movement and help the young students get a basic handle on musical ideas and structure. Students aren’t the only ones benefitting from the lessons, Head Start Director Tara Martin said. “Our teachers are working closely with Averett’s faculty to develop their comfort level in instruction, and it has been a wonderful partnership,” Martin said.
