People Inc. Celebrates Head Start’s 50th Anniversary

Hayters GapOn May 18th, 1965 , in the White House Rose Garden, President Lyndon B. Johnson announced to the nation the creation of Project Head Start. “…Less than 3 months ago… we opened a new war front on poverty. We set out to make certain that poverty’s children would not be forevermore poverty’s captives.”

50 years later, Head Start programs have been renewing the nation’s commitment to our at-risk children by celebrating that momentous occasion!  Many Head Start programs across the country have been planting a rose bush in a special place that will remind everyone of the commitment that was made to our nation’s children 50 years ago.  People Inc., in southwest VA,  celebrated the 50th anniversary of Head Start by planting rose bushes at some of their sites.
